This ecoregion includes the upper and middle Zhob and Kabul River basins, and intermediate basins.
Description of endemic fishes
Three endemic species in the genus Schistura.
Justification for delineation
Delineations were determined using a bottom-up approach that employed both published and unpublished field data and expert assessment (Abell et al. 2008). The delineation of this ecoregion was based on topography, fish fauna as described in Mirza (1995), endemics, and headwaters (M. Kottelat pers. comm. 2006).
