This ecoregion includes the Liao He (known upriver as Xiliao He) in the Liaoning and Jilin Provinces (China).

Justification for delineation
Delineations were determined using a bottom-up approach that employed both published and unpublished field data and expert assessment (Abell et al. 2008; Li 1981; Liu & Qin 1987). This ecoregion was delineated based on freshwater fish zoogeography (M. Kottelat pers. comm. 2006).
