Description

Boundaries

This ecoregion includes the Huang He (Yellow River) basin downriver of the border between Nei Monggol (Inner Mongolia) and the Shaanxi and Shanxi Provinces.

Description of endemic fishes

10 endemic species

Justification for delineation

Delineations were determined using a bottom-up approach that employed both published and unpublished field data and expert assessment (Abell et al. 2008). The Huang He was subdivided into different zoogeographic ecoregions based on Li (1981) and Zhang (1995). This ecoregion contains a generalized fauna that is similar to the fauna in the Huang He Great Bend ecoregion [635] because of topography (M. Kottelat pers. comm. 2006).
