Description
Boundaries
This ecoregion includes the Huang He (Yellow River) basin upriver of the Nei Monggol (Inner Mongolia), Shaanxi, and Shanxi border, and downriver of the border between Gansu and Ningxia Huizu. The upriver limit corresponds to the extent of the Himalayas. The ecoregion includes the Huang He\'s inner delta.
Description of endemic fishes
No endemic species
Justification for delineation
Delineations were determined using a bottom-up approach that employed both published and unpublished field data and expert assessment (Abell et al. 2008). The Huang He was subdivided into different zoogeographic ecoregions based on Li (1981) and Zhang (1995). This ecoregion contains a generalized fauna that is similar to the fauna in the Lower Huang He ecoregion [636] because of topography. It is delineated by drainage and topography (M. Kottelat pers. comm. 2006).
