Description

Boundaries

This is part of the Huang He (Yellow River) basin on the Central Asian Plateau, upriver of Guide (Qinghai Province), and endorheic basins of Qinghai.

Description of endemic fishes

8 endemic species

Justification for delineation

Delineations were determined using a bottom-up approach that employed both published and unpublished field data and expert assessment (Abell et al. 2008). This area is distinguished as its own zoogeographic region according to Li (1981), Wu and Wu (1992), and Zhang (1995). The ecoregion has low richness, but a high percentage of endemics (M. Kottelat pers. comm. Jan. 16, 2006).
